My current research is focussed on challenges in high dimensional data analysis. Theoretical work includes multiple testing and model selection issues when the number of tests / regressors is larger than the sample size. I like to view these problems both from a frequentist as well as from a Bayesian perspective. Currently the main applications I am working on are genetic association studies, in particular GWAS and QTL mapping.
My past scientific work includes quantum mechanical modelling of semiconductors, statistical issues in protein sequence alignment, as well as semidefinite programming in the context of graph theoretical questions. In general I like to work on problems which are mathematically or methodologically demanding and have reasonable applications in natural and life sciences. I furthermore appreciate applying statistical methods to medical and biological research questions, where in general I enjoy the cooperation with researchers from other fields.
