Peter Klimek, complexity researcher at the Institute of the Science of Complex Systems at MedUni Vienna’s CeMSIIS, has been named “Scientist of the Year 2021” by the Club of Education and Science Journalists.
Klimek’s research focus is on developing new methods for the complex analysis and modeling of huge amounts of data, so-called “Big Data”, in relation to medicine. His expertise in physics, statistics, complexity science, and data science is expected to improve predictions about complex socioeconomic systems such as health care, economic, or financial systems.
Klimek is also part of the Covid Forecasting Consortium at the Federal Ministry of Health. As a tireless Covid 19 forecaster and reminder, he has become one of the most present scientific pandemic companions. For his work, he was also awarded the Paul Watzlawick Ring of Honor by the Vienna Medical Association in October 2021.
